Personality:
Pekas is a carefree and cheery golden-capped fruit bat.

Its usual expression defaults to that of a relaxed smile, the bare skin of its snout crinkling underneath the eyes, the tips of its mouth curving just that slightest bit upwards, and its ears angled slightly back.
Not much fazes the bat, who lives a life of untroubled and unworried roam.
It makes friends readily and easily, the numbers far outweighing the quality of these friendships, which remain shallow and temporary, easily forgotten once the bat has moved on, yet remembered all the same whenever a familiar face reveals itself once more.

It generally likes to help out where it can, however its attention span is somewhat lacking, and if the task proves too difficult or lasts for too long a time, the bat may grow bored or distracted, thereafter moving onto something else.
Despite its friendly, helpful nature, the bat isn't particularly caring of others, and once having completed its own initial interactions with strangers, tends to leave them to their own devices -- that, or, if the mood strikes it, drag them off to new adventures alongside it.

Its interests are fickle, flitting from one thing to the next, the bat a fast learner, but also an easy forgetter.
When something catches its eye or mind, it becomes excited or enthusiastic, and if success is procured, ecstatic elation soon follows.
Although it wishes to be a part of none, it has a keen interest in the actions and movements of groups and their members, of the politics between them, and it isn't afraid to get up close and personal like some nosy, nuisance news reporter.
It especially enjoys hearing of other cultures and learning new languages, both of these more so through experience and observation, over sitting and listening to someone else drone on about the subject.

Its merry energy seems to know no bounds, the bat almost always on the move, yet still remembering to stop and smell the flowers every now and then.


Appearance:
Pekas is an average-bodied, long-winged giant golden-crowned flying fox.

Its arms are long and muscular, but thin and tapering, extending well beyond its body.
Its body is covered in a short fuzz of black fur, the build somewhat lean, but with a wide chest; with wings extended the shape is something of a triangle.
Its ears are black, large, and triangular, with rounded tips; each ear bears a single silver eyespot upon the back.
Its eyes are big, bright, shaped as a triangle with rounded points, vertex facing down, and with pockmarked amber irises.
Its face fades into hairless silver freckled black, the general shape fairly similar to a fox.
Its legs are thin but long, heading further out past the patagium than would typically be normal, allowing it to walk somewhat in the manner of a vampire bat.
Its lips are thin, though thicken as they approach the eyes, with rounded ends.
Its mouth is black on the inside, with only the tongue's notched tip a pale pink.
Its muzzle is long and pointed, with a wrinkled black nose of bean-shaped nostrils.
Its head is crowned in a thick tuft of golden fur.
Its skin is smooth, wrinkling only around the termini of its body.
Its spine has a silver dorsal stripe, which extends into thinner stripes at random points along the length.
Its tail is particularly long, reminiscent of free-tailed bats in that it extends beyond the uropatagium, but in this case only slightly so, producing a sort of fluffy prong at the end of its uropatagium.
Its uropatagium (the fold which encircles the tail) is particularly long, nicked twice at the end to either side of the tail.
Its wings are relatively hairless, great folds of leather that wrap around its body like a draping cloak, each with one long, bony hooked silver thumb; the dorsal side is black spattered silver, while the underside is the yellow of old parchment, the surface spotted black and red.

Personal history:
Pekas was born on the Dragon's Blood Islands, and grew up in the company of a lackadaisical bat colony.
After hearing stories of the mainland from a visitor to the archipelago, the bat left in pursuit of the foreigner and these strange lands.
